In line with general ageing population trends in Australia, the number of older Deaf people requiring assistance and support from the Deaf Society of NSW is increasing at a very rapid rate.

Many older Deaf people remain living in their own homes where they are familiar with the local area. Many are relocating to be close to different Deaf communities across NSW.

Mullauna Village has been established in Blacktown by the Uniting Church as a residential care facility for elderly people, including those who are Deaf.

The Deaf Society’s Community Workers and Community Access Workers support older Deaf people across NSW by providing information and access to community services to makes sure they enjoy a good quality of life while living as independently as possible in their own local areas.

Deaf Society staff members provide services to older Deaf people at Deaf seniors clubs, in individual homes and in hostels, nursing homes and residential care facilities.
