The Deaf Society can give individual Deaf clients support that matches and meets their specific needs.
Usually, people first become clients of the Deaf Society by coming to Drop In or by contacting the Client and Community Services team.
A meeting is then organised to assess the person's needs and identify the level of urgency.
When someone has been accepted as a client into the service, a Community Worker will be appointed to help the client develop an Individual Program Plan. This plan makes sure the client's goals/aims are on the same track as the Community Worker's, and gives the client steps so they can achieve their goals.
Sometimes the plan includes referral to other organisations or government agencies. If the client wishes, the Deaf Society Community Worker will support them at the referral appointment with other agencies and organise interpreters for the appointment.
The Community Worker will also provide Deafness Awareness information to the other organisation so that they can become confident in dealing with Deaf clients without help and the client feels empowered to meet with the organisation independently.
To ask for support or to become a Deaf Society client, come to Drop In or contact the Client and Community Services team.
