The Far West region covers the western half of NSW; from the Queensland, South Australian and Victorian borders east to the Northern Rivers, New England, Central West and Riverina regions. Regional centres in this area include Broken Hill, Bourke and Brewarrina.
As one of the largest remote areas in NSW, it is no surprise to know that there are few established Deaf specific services. However, Broken Hill is home to one of the oldest Deaf and hard of hearing support services in regional NSW, the Broken Hill and District Hearing Resource Centre.
The Deaf Society has links and previously conducted joint work with the Hearing Resource Centre. Agencies and individuals can contact the Deaf Society at any time there is a need for individual and family support.
