Book an Interpreter

The Sign Language Communications NSW (SLC NSW) Interpreting Service maintains a register of over 150 interpreters who work throughout NSW and the ACT. All interpreters are accredited at either Paraprofessional or Professional level by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) and follow a strict code of ethics. Interpreters who are part of NAATI’s revalidation system are given priority for interpreting jobs as they have a formal commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing practice.

SLC NSW has an online booking system.

If this is the first time you are booking an interpreter online please make sure that you are using INTERNET EXPLORER, click on Book an Interpreter below and select REGISTER. Then complete the fields and click SAVE. You will then be able to click on NEW REQUEST on the menu on the left of the screen.

You can check on the status of your booking by logging in and going to ALL BOOKINGS. Once an interpreter has been booked you will receive confirmation.

For any queries, contact Sign Language Communications NSW.

Tips on booking interpreters:

  • Book an interpreter as early as possible. It is preferred that at least two week’s notice is given so that an available and appropriate interpreter can be booked.
  • Be clear about the nature of the assignment when booking an interpreter. Be specific about the assignment and any special skills or knowledge you think the interpreter will need. This will ensure an appropriate interpreter is assigned. This may also assist if a referral to another interpreting agency is required.
  • Keep cancellation charges in mind. Interpreting agencies and freelance interpreters will usually charge cancellation fees. This can extend to up to five working days before the booking hence it is important to cancel interpreters as soon as you are aware that they are not needed to avoid unnecessary charges.
