Other organisations related to education/early intervention of deaf children

Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC)
RIDBC provides a wide range of innovative educational services to children who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or vision impaired, including children with additional disabilities.

Roberta Reid Centre (at RIDBC)
A preschool providing special education for preschool-aged deaf children who use Auslan (Australian Sign Language). An RIDBC program.

The Garfield Barwick School (at RIDBC)
An RIDBC program.

Teleschool (at RIDBC)
A high-quality service to families living in rural and regional areas of Australia who have a child diagnosed with hearing and/or vision loss. An RIDBC program.

Early Learning Program (at RIDBC)
The Early Learning Program helps children with a hearing impairment and their families from the time of diagnosis of their hearing loss, until school entry. An RIDBC program.

St Gabriel's School for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Children
A Catholic special school within the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, enrolling students who are deaf, hearing impaired and severely language disordered.

St Dominics School
Provide a caring and challenging Christian education for children with hearing impairment, to help them achieve their full potential through focussing on language development and intelligible speech acquired through listening.

The Shepherd Centre
Provides an oral education to pre-school aged children who are hard of hearing.

Thomas Pattison School
An innovative school at the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children meeting the needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 10 who use Australian Sign Language (Auslan) as their first or preferred language.

 
Support organisations for parents

Parent Council for Deaf Education (PCDE)
PCDE is a not-for-profit parent organisation which aims to provide families with independent, unbiased information and support. PCDE collaborates with parents, professionals, Government departments and other organisations to promote equity of access to services and opportunities for families of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, irrespective of their chosen method of communication.

Deaf Mothers Club for the West
Mutual support group for Deaf mothers. The club meets every 4th Tuesday of the month.

Macarthur PoD (Parents of Deaf Children)

North Shore Deaf Children's Association
A support network for parents, friends and professionals of children with a hearing loss.

Dubbo and District Parent Support Group for Deaf/Hearing Impaired

Lismore PoD (Parents of Deaf Children)
Lismore PoD is a peer support group for parents with deaf children, which aims to provide support and balanced information in a friendly non-judgmental environment to any parent whose child has been diagnosed as deaf.

 
Some other service organisations

Deaf Australia
Formerly known as Australian Association of the Deaf (AAD), it is the national peak body managed by Deaf people that represents, promotes, preserves, and informs the development of the Australian Deaf Community, its language and cultural heritage.

Australian Hearing
Australian Hearing is a federal government agency delivering hearing services to eligible Australians. Go to www.hearing.com.au/eligibility to find out more.

Australian Hearing produces Choices magazine (for parents and families of children who have been newly diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing).

Jim Patrick Audiology Centre (RIDBC)
A family-friendly audiology clinic at the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, offering a full range of children's audiological services. Requires a referral from a Medical Practitioner.

Children's Cochlear Implant Centre
A division of the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre.

Children's Hospital Deafness Centre (Westmead)
The Children's Hospital Deafness Centre provides a multidisciplinary service to help children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families where there is a problem or query associated with the hearing loss.

Aussie Deaf Kids
Online information and support for families raising a deaf child.

Deaf Children Australia
Deaf Children Australia provides information, advocacy, support services and educational resources that respond to the needs of deaf children and their families.

Deaf Sports Australia
DSA is the peak body for deaf sport in Australia, focussed on facilitating the access of deaf and hard of hearing people to the best sporting opportunities available in Australia.

National Relay Service
The National Relay Service is a telephone relay service that allows people who are deaf or have a hearing, speech or other communication impairment to make phone calls.
