It can be difficult for parents of deaf children to access information and services. The Deaf Society provides support, advice, referrals and information about the full range of services available from the Deaf Society and other organisations. |

Early Intervention
Deaf Society staff visit people in their home to provide information about and refer people to Early Intervention services in NSW.
We also work with families to give them an experience of Auslan (Australian Sign Language) to help parents decide how much of a role Auslan plays in communication – if they want their child to learn Auslan as their first or second language or as a support to speech.

The program provides Auslan classes for hearing parents, brothers, sisters and family of deaf children. Auslan Heritage School also helps introduce families to the Deaf community.
In the tradition of Saturday language schools, The Deaf Society of NSW and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) present Auslan Heritage School as part of our commitment to helping families of deaf children develop Auslan skills and explore the role of Auslan in their lives.
