How the Employment Service operates

Every year, each Deaf Society Service writes an Annual Plan which matches the Strategic Plan. The Annual Plan allows us to review results and plan for the future.

We review our plans regularly throughout the year to make sure that we are meeting the Key Performance Indicators set by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) as well as the Deaf Society. Each staff member writes a report every fortnight to their supervisor including progress on the Strategic Plan. This then forms the basis of the report from the Manager, Employment Service to the Director of Services which is discussed during monthly one-to-one meetings.

All staff members have the opportunity to have input into the goals and objectives of the Strategic and Annual Plans. This is done via the Staff Forum, Team Meetings, a monthly report, and in individual supervision sessions between staff and the Manager.

In order to meet the goals of the Employment Service, we consult stakeholders including Deaf jobseekers twice a year on the parts of the Plan that specifically deal with the Employment Service.

The Strategic Plan:

  • Identifies key priorities
  • Sets out specific objectives
  • Identifies staff training and development needs
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Identifies communication strategies
  • Determines the allocation of resources and responsibilities
  • Addresses internal organisational issues

Accountability and Standards
The Deaf Society Employment Service is accountable to consumers and their advocates, the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) - the funding body, members, donors and the general public.

The Deaf Society Employment Service follows the 12 Disability standards in providing services. All Employment Service staff must be familiar with the Disability Services Standards and make sure that they utilise these standards in their work with clients. A Plain English copy is also available for clients.
