If you are registered with the Deaf Society Employment Service you can use the computers, TTY’s, etc. in the Deaf Society Employment Room to help with your job search.
The Employment Room is a room especially for clients looking for work. Clients can access:
- computers
- the internet (with access to job search engines and email)
- TTY’s
- telephone
- newspapers
- private space for meetings with Employment Officers
The Employment Room also has a noticeboard with:
- a list of job vacancies (updated every day)
- information from Centrelink (such as changes to job seeker obligations and payment days)
- any updates to DEEWR guidelines that are relevant to clients
- TAFE training opportunities
- information about your rights in the workplace
- anti-discrimination information
What to the Employment Officers do? They:
- provide intensive job search help
- give career guidance
- train clients in how to use search engines and search newspapers
- discuss suitability of jobs
- guide the writing of CVs and job applications
- provide one to one support so clients can be job-ready
The Employment Officers also train clients in workplace practices and interview techniques.
