Auslan Interpreting in the Workplace

A Deaf job seeker or employee may receive Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreting assistance for employment situations, including job interviews, job induction, meetings and training through the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF). There is no limit to the number of employment interviews Deaf job seekers can attend using this service.

Providing Auslan interpreting in the workplace maximises the ability and independence of Deaf new employees in a new job or Deaf existing employees whose continued employment is at risk. It also supports strong employment growth and the improved productive performance of enterprises within Australia.

There are three types of assistance:

  • Auslan interpreting and Deaf Awareness training in the workplace for Deaf employees, including travel assistance for interpreters where eligible.
  • Auslan interpreting for employment interviews for Deaf job seekers.
  • Assistance for co-workers of Deaf employees to undertake studies in Certificate II Auslan (nationally recognised) courses.

You can apply for one or more of these levels of assistance.
