The Deaf Society of NSW is aware that the number of deaf children with disabilities is growing. Usher syndrome, CHARGE syndrome, Waardenburg syndrome and Neurofibromatosis type II are just a few of the more common syndromes of children and families accessing our Auslan programs and other services. We will continue to offer deafness and communication related advice, information and support to families with children who have needs additional to deafness.
The Deaf Society specialises in providing services related to deafness and Deaf people. Experience has shown us that these are often relevant and useful to families with deaf children who have disabilities. Contact us to discuss how our programs may suit your needs.
Auslan vocabulary is often used as the basis of non-verbal and augmentative communication systems such as Makaton which is used by children with disabilities. Contact us to find out how our fee for service seminars and courses may fit your training and information needs.
Our sponsored Auslan family programs are open to families with deaf children with or without disabilities.
