What Our Students Think: Courses

"The Deaf Society of NSW offered Deaf Awareness training to our Organisation with the recruitment of our 2 new Deaf care workers who were employed to assist with the needs of our Deaf and Deaf/Blind clients they have become a valuable part of our branch in our new team of 25 Care workers.

The Deaf Awareness training was very beneficial to myself as the Co coordinator of the team and it gave a greater understanding to the other Care workers in the team about the Deaf Community and also the services that the Deaf Society provide to the Deaf and Hearing Impaired people in the community.

We were also made aware of different ways and equipment available to communicate with our new co workers such as how to engage in a conversation through the use of interpreters and different techniques and styles of communication that the Deaf and the Hearing Impaired persons use.

The trainer was very professional and interesting she kept the whole team involved throughout the training session by teaching basic signs, finger spelling, examples of how lip reading can be difficult for anyone to understand, she also involved the deaf care workers throughout the presentation.

The Deaf Awareness training is very interesting and informative and has given our whole Branch a greater understanding of how to communicate with our new Deaf co workers, and make them feel part of the team."

"The course was fantastic; Kate was wonderful, professional with a great sense of humour. Rebecca was also very impressive in what must be a very skilled role and they worked so well together."
