| 1983 |

1984 to 1985 |
The Interpreters' Forum is initiated as a task force of the Education, Employment and Social Issues Sub-Committee of the Australian Deafness Council of NSW. |
| 1986 |
The Interpreters' Forum becomes a separate entity. |
| 1989 |
The Interpreters' Forum becomes the Association of NSW Interpreters for the Deaf (ANID), to be compatible with sign language groups in other states, such as the Association of Victorian Interpreters for the Deaf (AVID). |
| 1991 |
At the Adelaide National Deafness Conference, a national interpreters' association is formed, the Association of Australian Sign Language Interpreters (AASLI). Interpreter associations of each state and territory are encouraged to
follow this idea, and place the initials of their state and territory in brackets. Thus ANID becomes AASLI (NSW). |
| 1992 |
At the Perth National Deafness Conference, after some teething difficulties with the name AASLI, a vote is taken to change the name to the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association. AASLI (NSW) becomes ASLIA (NSW). |
| 2000 |
ASLIA (NSW) launches an information kit for interpreters and their clients. |
| 2003 |
ASLIA (NSW) becomes ASLIA (NSW) Inc. Our first AGM as an incorporated body and a 20th anniversary dinner are held in August 2003. The ASLIA (NSW) website is also launched. |
