Services

The objective of the Deaf Society's Advocacy Service is to provide support and representation in order to promote, protect and secure the rights of individuals who are Deaf and hard of hearing. Our advocacy work is both individual and systemic.

We:

  • provide information and education to consumers on their rights and responsibilities
  • offer a free referral service to clients to assist them to resolve public and private matters
  • where possible, advocate on behalf of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing to service providers about their responsibilities to provide access for Deaf people
  • inform and educate service providers on their responsibilities to provide access for Deaf people

These services are provided in the context of the NSW Disability Services Act 1993 and the
12 Disability Standards.

The Deaf Society of NSW also participates in systemic advocacy and acts as a representative on many consultative committees.
